Could you make a World of Difference in the life of a young person with
C:\fakepath\Chloe and Sam 2
When a Time2Share
Co-Ordinator visited Chloe, aged 9 and from Paulton, having FUN with a trusted
friend was on her list of things she wanted.
Time2Share set to work to find a new volunteer befriender who would be
reliable and would meet with Chloe once a week.
It took a couple of months to find, recruit, train a new volunteer, and
then Sam was matched with Chloe. They
got on like a "house on fire". The
first couple of visits, Sam and Chloe went to McDonalds, went to a local Softplay,
went to the park, swimming and then had a fun-filled day out at Cowtastic at
Farrington Gurney Farm Shop. When it was
Chloe's birthday, Sam and Chloe went out for a celebration meal. Sam made a memory book for Chloe on some of
their outings, and on bad weather days are planning to do baking and crafts at
Sam comes once a week for a few
hours. Sam has grown-up children of her
own, and also volunteers regularly for the elderly, but Time2Share appealed to
Sam's sense of fun and giving time to a child.
She told Time2Share "I really enjoy seeing Chloe and having 1:1 time gives
Chloe special time and gives her family a break. I get on really well with the family and the
other children are adorable."
Chloe's Mum Kelly reports, "I trust
Sam, she won't let Chloe down, and they do really good fun things
together. It was really touching and
exciting for Chloe when Sam had made a Memory Book for her, and put it in the
post. Sam is a gem of a volunteer and we are very lucky!"
Time2Share is a voluntary
organisation working to support disabled children and their families in Bath
and NE Somerset.
We are currently looking for people
of all different ages, varied interests and backgrounds to join the Befriending
Scheme as a volunteer. The scheme is
flexible and aims to accommodate both volunteer and family.
No experience is necessary as we'll
provide you with training and support you throughout your befriending
role. Once trained, we will match you
with someone with similar hobbies and interests to your own.
MAKING THAT DIFFERENCE.... If this is something you could spend a
few hours a week doing, please contact Sarah on 0117 941 5868 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
