Midsomer Norton woke up to snow and a warning for drivers to take extra care on the roads.

Bath and North East Somerset Council had gritters out last night after warnings from weather forecasters of dangerous ice on the roads.

So far all services are running as normal and there are no school closures as a result of the overnight snowfall.

Some schools, such as Midsomer Norton Junior, have advised parents that they and children need to take greater care on paths around their premises.

Just like a week ago, it appears the South West escaped the worst of the UK snow.

Victoria Kettley, forecaster at MeteoGroup, told the Mail Online: "The snow began around 6pm before intensifying. The heaviest falls were seen over a band covering South Yorkshire and Leicestershire with accumulations of between 5-6cm.

"As the evening progressed the heaviest snow spread southwards before fizzling out towards Wales and the South West.

"The overnight weather means there will be treacherous conditions on the roads this morning as the snow melts and poses the threat of widespread ice on untreated roads."
