Olympic torch route near Midsomer Norton

Yesterday, the British-designed Olympic torch was unveiled but it looks as it will by-pass Midsomer Norton.

However, if you want to cheer the torchbearers on, you'll be able to in Street, Glastonbury, Wells, Croscombe, Shepton Mallet, Frome, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Bath, Bitton, Longwell Green, Hanham and Bristol where there will be an evening celebration around 7pm in the Millennium Square and The Amphitheatre. The torch will be carried through these towns on Tuesday, May 22 and is due to be in Street at 9am. For times and route details click here.
Eight-thousand London 2012 Olympic Torches will be carried by inspirational torchbearers over the summer. Approximately 110 Torches a day will be carried through over 1,000 communities across the UK during the 70-day Olympic Torch Relay presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung. The Torch's triangular, gold-coloured form is perforated by 8,000 circles representing the 8,000 Torchbearers and their stories of personal achievement and/or contribution to their local community which will be celebrated as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
