Joe Slade with Somervale Headteacher Peter Beaven
Joe achieved two A grades in Maths and Physics as well as a C in Chemistry to win a place on the Electrical and Electronic Engineering course at Bath University. This is widely regarded as one of the best courses in the country.
He submitted a paper to the Dyson competition which outlined several inventions he had tinkered with to solve some every day matters. A few examples included; building a K'nex model, five feet tall to demonstrate the appearance of centrifugal force, constructing an air conditioning unit out of old coke bottles and some kitchen roll tubes, a cooling system for laptops, to prevent the laptop power supply from overheating and a quiz game style buzzer system, designed to be used during a family Christmas party!
He is clearly set for an exciting career in Engineering.
