A very simple google search would provide you with the answer: http://tinyurl.com/44oj48n

ReportAnyway, why is it a path to nowhere? It's pretty easy to spot that there's a school at the end of "nowhere", with a whacking great cycle path that connects to Westfield, Welton and Radstock, with the possibility of an extension to Somervale too. Sounds like a blindingly great idea to me, especially for the school kids that can walk and cycle along it every day.

Ignore him Chutzpah84. Just another whinging petrol junkie who is incapable of recognising anything beyond the end of his overpriced tin can and probably enjoys the traffic congestion, obesity and heart disease that his car dependent lifestyle generates.
One wonders if he is even capable of functioning further than a 25 yard radius of his fossil fuelled life support system.
Let's not turn this into an eco-warrior issue. A cycle path to replace the overgrown, dog-s**t covered path that can be used by everyone to walk or cycle is a great idea. MSN has loads of potential but very little has happened in the 12 years I've lived here (hats off to the folks at the station though, all that effort is paying off).
"If we live in democratic societies we should give more priority to pedestrians and bicycles" Enrique Peñalosa.

Surely if we live in a democratic society we should give equal, not more priority to pedestrians and bicycles the owners of whom, by the way, contribute nothing to highway maintenance

ReportI'm guessing you're trolling now? However, just in case you're not I'll politely mention that highway maintenance comes out of local council money - we all contribute via our council tax. The money you pay to stick a disc on your car just goes into central government coffers. Have a read on the subject on the internet.

I would suggest that Enrique Peñalosa is implying that pedestrian and bicycle priorities should be *increased* from their current low level; and car priority reduced to match.
As Chutzpah84 suggests, bicycles are not the only type of vehicle that is Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) exempt, or zero rated. It's a tax on cars, not roads. For instance, the DirectGov website will show you a list of 55 models of motor vehicle in VED Band A. Zero rated; £0, zilch, nada. The ironically titled ipayroadtax web sited also lists the following types of vehicle which are tax exempt or zero rated: Electric vehicles, cars built before 1973, vehicles belonging to ex-soldiers in receipt of war pensioners' mobility supplement, disabled drivers, American soldiers operating in Britain and running their own imported cars, police cars, fire-engines, ambulances and other health-service vehicles, road construction vehicles, Crown vehicles (that's right - the Queen doesn't pay VED, she being the only person who might reasonably claim to "own the roads"), Government Car and Despatch Agency (that's Ministerial Cars, and the like), agricultural vehicles. All this is by the by, as not one penny of what ignorant and ill informed people claim to be "road tax" is ring-fenced for exclusive highway maintenance use. There was such a tax that existed between 1909-1936, but no more. Local authorities and their predecessors have been responsible for highway maintenance for centuries. Roads were maintained in well enough condition for the early bicycles to be used for decades before the first cars - the old solid tyred penny farthings would make pretty poor mountain bikes. And of course, the roads had to be fit for accommodating the early cars, otherwise there wouldn't have been any point in inventing the damned things in the first place. So, my dear Ellwoodjames, go away and get yourself better informed before spouting off more nonsense.
Actually I think the Great Wall is rather attractive! Having lived near a river and seen the beauty and effect of these 'caged stones' I'm all for it. Mind you... I've often thought I'd sneak in the wee hours of the night and liberate a few stones....but I now have no need for them, but I do think it looks looks good.
