I think Midsomer Norton could benefit from the creative outlet TyEmery has mentioned. Would this be open to anyone? And would it cost alot?
I found that there is a need for classes for mums with tots to go too and bring their children along. And as some are home schooled many mums are looking for extra activities for them.

I just heard today that there is another prospective buyer for the property we have in mind and he wants to turn it into yet another Indian restaurant!! Is this really what MSN needs? Do you not think there are already enough food outlets in the high street? Which would you rather have, and Indian restaurant or something that will actually benefit the community on a much wider scale!?
Understandably, we are very exited by the prospect of being able to give something to the community but if this chap gets his way there will be nothing to benefit anyone!
Midsomer Norton does NOT need another Indian restaurant. There's two already, another one will be financial suicide! I'm all for having a few more good restaurants in the town but let's have a bit of variety.

I think Midsomer Norton needs an arts centre where local artists can display their work, plays can be put on and perhaps have a monthly comedy night.

I have just moved back to Somerset after living away from the area for some 25 years and I am shocked to see how grubby MSN looks.
Martins the newsagents and all of the shops from there along to the corner of SIlver Street let the place down.
A lick of paint would brighten up the place - MSN has the potential to be pretty and would attract more passing trade if it cleaned up its act
There's just a few places that could undergo a make-over but you have to admit, in the past few months, the High Street is looking better. I like the banners, and the new water feature...and we're getting there. Improvements are being made, so be patient!

I agree an Arts centre would be great, I'm trying at the moment to find local artists and photographers so they can showcase and sell they're work from within the charity I work for, we have plenty of space and the work would get a lot of exposure. We're not far off opening this space but work is still be undertaken
msn needs to encourage youngsters to get involved in any kind of drama groups, arts, youth centres, etc it can only be of benefit to us all. Where and how i don't know but we need to achieve a positive outlook for our future generations.
In response to grtlush post , i've lived in Norton for 48 yrs i think the high street look's better now that at any time i can remember, we need to appreciate what we have and keep involved in this kind of discussion to hopefully improve our town.

What about something for mature people to join and make friends, like a drama group or other social group. There is often talk about not enough for young people to do, but the more mature, but not quite elderley would like activities and a chance to make friends

Midsomer Norton Arts willprovide this for you. We are working with the Mayor to make this happen from the Town Hall for all ages! Tuesday 3rd April taster day workshops for all to be involved in. Email msnarts@hotmail.co.uk to book a dance, drama, music, hula workshop only £5 each!
PEOPLE now have an internet cafe/Education Centre 'iTea' - Come and browse for jobs and housing, tea and coffee from £1.00 as well as other light refreshments. - This should hopefully be very useful to the community seeing as we no longer have a job centre in MSN, you can also print and photocopy using our facilities
Our new music recording studio/rehearsal room will be opening soon also, we are looking for local bands and musicians to come and enjoy the space. We're always on the look out for musical instruments so if you have anything that's surplus to requirements bring it on down to the shop!
Wow...I love the fact there's a place to do some photocopying but better yet a recording studio and music room. Will be popping by soon for a bit of tea!

@ Tinytrish - The shop/cafe and studio are all based at 55a High Street MSN, the shop and all other facilities are open daily, Mon to Fri 9:00am - 4:30pm and Saturday 10:00am - 4:30pm. The studio will operate in the day time but may be more dedicated to our work with the children from Fosseway School (but not on an 'every day' basis) it will be opening in the evenings for bands and recording...
Yes Carla, come on down and see what we have on offer, I may be able to give you a small 'tour' of the place too...
I forgot to mention in the last post that we also have a wood workshop where people are invited to come and work on furniture restoration :)
Basic beginner guitar lessons now being offered, £6.00 per half hour.
If there are tracks you'd like to learn please bring them along on an iPod/CD, email me at the studio peoplestudio1@gmail.com
We can provide you with an acoustic/electric guitar or you can bring your own if you prefer
All ages welcome, all staff CRB checked
Also, our iTea communications cafe is now open. Use our computers to browse for jobs or housing in the area. Tea or coffee plus and hour's internet access only £3.50. You are more than welcome to bring along your own laptop if you prefer

There is also a salon called revive in church square, Midsomer Tanning/Beauty in Holly court and the Positive Living centre behind Mallards all do a range of beauty and spa treatments....I'm truly surprised at the people who are commenting on what they want, yet not using the businesses that we already have that already provide these services! But then I still get the occasional person in thinking we are still a Jewellers, that was 15 years ago people.
Midsomer Norton High street is dead. Why? People prefer to go out of town for shopping. Parking is hopeless. Everything the young people wants gets shelved. People have no interest in the town unless they can make money. If people want to create interest and partake in createing a good town why not form a company and invest in the town something like a cooperative and reinvest in the high street, in the youth and the commuity we have a active council so we could get a active development committee and build a great town. Put your money up and get moving. Who is up for it?

Norton needs some decent shops to bring in the punters. There aren't any which why punters got to other venues like Trowbridge, Street, Longwell Green, etc. How about a Wilkinson for starters. I think with the current attitude of the CofC, you've got more chance of hell freezing over. Just think about it for a few seconds, if you were going out shopping on a Sat afternoon, why would you want to go to Norton? As for Radstock, even worse. So much potential in both towns but stifled like the vocal minority want for Westfield too with their 'no' to Sainsburys.
