What makes a good pub?

Do you have a favourite pub in Midsomer Norton?
Is it the atmosphere, the food, the friendly faces or the fact they have your favourite tipple to hand or that it’s staggering distance from your house?
There’s several pubs in Midsomer Norton and we’d like to know your views on them. So do give them a rating in our business directory
The White Hart, on The Island, was listed in the Good Pub Guide 2009 as a “well worn chatty Victorian local with several rooms, Bass, Butcombe and a guest tapped from the cask, two farm ciders, local coal-mining memorabilia, bargain simple lunchtime food, cheerful helpful staff; no credit cards; dogs welcome, open all day.” Having visited the White Hart, I have to agree and I particularly like the little patio over looking the river in the back of the pub.
For specials on food Mallards runs occasional two for one offers on meals and has a good sun trap beer garden where you can watch all the happenings in the High Street.
A popular place for live music on the weekend is the Riverside. I particularly like the decor and atmosphere but could do without the tv screens.
The best beer garden can be found at the Crossways Tavern and if you want free wi-fi it can be found at The Greyhound, where the younger crowd tends to hang out at the Wunderbar.
If a spit and sawdust pub is what you’re looking for then the Stone Cross is the place to go.
There are a few pubs just outside Midsomer Norton that are worth mentioning as they do really good food. I particularly like The Fromeway in Radstock; Somerset Wagon in Chilcompton; Jolliffe Arms in Kilmersdon, and The White Post in Stratton on the Fosse.
Do let us know what your favourite pub is and include your reviews in our business directory.
