Midsomer Norton businesses' mystery closing
By CarlaEGale | Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 15:35
Does anyone know what's going on with Footnotes and Chantry TV? For the past three days the shutters have been down on both High Street businesses. However, I'm sure I saw them open at the weekend.

Have Footmotes and Chantry TV closed?
Are they closing or just closed during the week? Does anyone know?

Now that is more concerning. Don't believe Tesco expansion would make a difference, but a large s/ actually in msn centre may be different!

ReportThat's what I have heard, and that it would be sited behind the High Street, which I gathered was in the South Road car park.

ReportAre there plans to bring a large superstore into the centre of MSN?

ReportIf plans to bring a large superstore into the centre of Midsomer Norton were to go ahead, traffic through the High Street would be even worse. It's chaos now as during rush hour and the school run, it's like a massive parking lot.

ReportI don't agree. Is Farringtons affected by the existance of Tescos - No. They sell well, have a focussed and alternative stock and service their customers well. People come for miles to them because of this. I would never go to Tescos specifically for a cup of coffee (if they expand), but I would go out of my way to go to Farringtons. If I have a hardware need, I go to Casswells because of service and the greater variety of items in that niche. If I want to buy cakes for the family, more often than not I will buy some from one of the bakers in town as the cakes taste nicer, it's more personal and the choice is more relevant to me, and if I want a tv that is not a bog standard tv, I will go to Chantrys for the same reasons. However, if I want a monthly shop, I will either shop online or go to Tescos - An expanded Tescos will more than likely affect how regularly I shop at Tesco online rather than my MSN shopping habits. The two areas are in (or at least should be) in different games. Butchers like anyone else can compete if they focus on their distinctions. I come from a small town in Devon where the introduction of a large Tesco 'threatened' to overshadow the small town High Street. I went back at the weekend and the High Street is more thriving than ever, due to the realisation that niche shops selling quality goods at reasonable prices with excellent service will always attract a loyal following.
