Midsomer Norton is set to be 'regenerated' and will get a new High Street supermarket, as well as new shops, offices and homes.

Bath and North East Somerset is about to approve what it calls a 'strategy plan' for the town.

It is aimed at improving the High Street in Midsomer Norton. The plan includes building new, larger shops in the town centre, as well as a new supermarket and car park.

Councillor Francine Haeberling, leader of B&NES, said, “The private sector and the council have a strong track record of providing development projects that have improved the Somer Valley community.

"We have already made a start on making Midsomer Norton a stronger town centre by committing the council to its Hollies office location to help sustain high levels of footfall for local shops.

“This plan sets out the next steps of the town centre’s regeneration as the council seeks to establish Midsomer Norton as the retail commercial centre of the Somer Valley.

"The intention is to create a brighter future for the town centre and wider support the space for 1,000 jobs Somer Valley area. We plan to work with the wider community, including the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Chamber of Commerce, to meet the ambitions for the area.”

Good question Ellwoodjames. Who will foot the bill for the regeneration of Midsomer Norton's High Street?

I am curious to know how blue chip retailers are to be enticed to M.S.N town centre, will we see Country Casuals nestling between a charity shop and a takeaway, will B&NES Council afford council tax relief to new outlets ?
We have something of a chicken and egg scenario, quality stores move into a quality environment with a heavy footfall, this is not the appearance M.S.N exudes at the moment.
Finally who is to fund this regeneration.

So, I gather this means that M&Co will be extended. Wonder where the new supermarket will be located in the HIgh Street. Will it be an extended Sainsburys or perhaps a Waitrose? I also wonder reading between the lines "thecouncil seeks to establish Midsomer Norton as the retail commercial centre of the Somer Valley", do that mean they're going to turn the High Street into a version of Clarks Village in Street?
