This week is the launch of the first Liftshare Week, where people are encouraged to cut their carbon footprint by carpooling.

Looking for someone to share a lift with?
Now if you want a lift you no longer have to use your thumb but a click of a mouse as there is a website to help you find other car-sharers.
Perhaps you need a lift into Bath from Midsomer Norton. According to Liftshare.com, there are 73 journeys you could share and sharing this journey with another person could save around 968 miles each year, which equates to £214, and 0.3 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Finding a car buddy is easy as all you have to do is register your journey and find someone to travel with.
According to an AA/Populus poll, published today, one in five people now car-share regularly.
But car sharing isn’t just about cutting costs and carbon emissions, car sharing also helps to increase a sense of community.
Retired school teacher Jennie from Midsomer Norton said: “Once a week I and my neighbour share a lift to Tesco’s to do a big shop. It’s not that far to travel but we can share the journey and have a laugh and it makes grocery shopping more bearable.”
Kathryn, who works in Bristol, signed up on the Liftshare website in April and quickly had a number of offers to lift share. “ I soon started to share with a lady who lived nearby and worked just round the corner from me. We've been lift sharing ever since - she drives and I give her petrol money. We now liftshare every week and I only ever have to drive to work once a week due to slight differences in our working hours. Not only this but we have a good laugh on the journey and she fast became a good friend.”
Do you lift share? If not, why not? And if you have a car and are planning a journey, how do you feel about trying this out? Let us know.
