People - beware the angry cows that are roaming the fields around Midsomer Norton.

Oh yes. I was out for a walk the other evening, and found myself on a trail that started on the road to Clapton, but took me along the ridge of the Somer Valley, heading south to Chilcompton.

I walked into a field pretty close to Chilcompton - it was near the coaches car park - and this family of cows wandered over to check me out.

I saw that there were a couple of calves, so I slowed down just in case. And it's a good job I hadn't walked very far because all of a sudden the biggest cow started running straight at me.

I'm telling you I don't think I have been so scared in my life. I turned round and ran as fast as I could to the stile, and literally threw myself over. The cow was inches, no exaggeration, from catching me.

I did a sort of rubbish forward roll as I landed on the other side. And even though there was a fence between me and the cow, I ran as fast as I could for about three fields before I stopped.

Funny, sort of, now. But I was very close to being trodden on by a very angry and very heavy cow. Beware other walkers! Stay clear of cows right now!
