The Health and Wellbeing Partnership, comprising Bath and North East Somerset Council and NHS B&NES are hosting a series of open days at Community Resource Centres in the area, in April.
The Centres promote independence into old age, for example by providing additional support to stay in your own home, day centre facilities, sheltered living and residential care. At the open days, residents will have the chance to find out about the services on offer at Community Resource Centres based in Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham.
Audrey Mowatt, is a resident at Charlton House, she said:
“Recently I moved into one of the newly built Community Resource Centres in Keynsham. Transition from one’s own home into a care home environment, initially can be very difficult. My transition was made so much easier by the very caring staff and the welcome I received by the residents. The relationship between staff and managers is most important and because this is present here at Charlton House I have settled in well. I feel I can always speak with someone if I have a problem.
“My family have also remarked on the happy atmosphere there is. I have a lovely comfortable, spacious room enhanced by some of, my own furnishings and en-suite facilities. I am delighted that the Home provides a Hairdresser, nail cutting service, and various therapies which all enhance my wellbeing and more recently my mobility.”
The centres all incorporate residential care as well as services to support the wider community. For example, respite care and day care is available at the centres as well as hairdressing service, a toenail cutting service run by Age Concern, meeting rooms and activity rooms. Cooked meals can also be booked in advance. In addition, the Centres also have five Extra Care schemes where tenants have their own flat with support staff based on site, who provide a planned daily package of care to suit the individual’s needs.
Councillor Vic Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services and Housing, said:
“Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Community Resource Centres are at the heart of our commitment to promoting independence into old age. These Open Days are a great opportunity to find out about the range of services available, see the modern facilities first hand and meet some of the staff who work at the Centres every day.”
At the open day, visitors will have the chance to find out more about process of going into residential and sheltered care. Professionals, including Care Home Managers, Extra Care Managers and staff, Social Workers, District Nurses, the Care Home Support Service, Housing Associations, Age Concern, Alzheimer's Support Group, a Financial Advisor and Mental Health Services will also be on hand to talk through the options.
