Midsomer Norton road repair was a waste of time and money

Two recent stories from councilspokesman on this site  revealed  B&NES’ intention to spend £6.5 million on roadworks and just after the cold snap the council brought £500,000 forward to repair roads damaged by the cold weather.

For weeks I and other readers highlighted the pothole problem at the Sainsbury roundabout in Midsomer Norton waiting for something to be done.

Alas  the potholes were filled this past week – but only on one side of the roundabout!

Would it have taken too much effort to have filled  the holes on the other side of the road which were  just feet away?

Now the council is saying that 253 acres of roads and pavements will either be resurfaced or surface dressed from April 2010  and it has set aside £6.5million to do so.

I imagine the council could do it all at half the price and in half the time if the job was done correctly in the first place!

    To CarlaGale and Howard_C:

When the works to this road were instructed this pothole didn't appear to exist. It appeared subsequent to this original inspection. The Council's Highways Team have issued an emergency order for the pothole in the picture to be repaired as soon as possible.

This road is also part of the Council's extensive proactive road improvement programme for 2010/11 as reported elsewhere on this website tinyurl.com/yb9je98

The Council relies upon regular highways inspections and members of the public reporting to us problems on the highway network to make roads and pavements as good as possible. The pothole in this picture had not been reported to Council Connect.

The quickest and most convenient method for residents to report significant concerns about roads and pavements is to either text Council Connect or alternatively call 01225 394041 between 8am (9.30am Wednesday) and 6pm Monday to Friday or email councilconnect@bathnes.gov.uk at any time day or night or text 07797 806545.

I guess it was the usual box-ticking council jobsworth with no initiative.  "Not on the job sheet so can't do it, guv. Not my problem." The sort of person that wouldn't last five minutes in commerce or industry, which is why they end up working for the council.
