POWER2010 Movement

Fed up

with all of the cynicism in politics – then join the POWER2010 movement.  It's all about giving democracy back to

people like you and me; and then organising to make sure that the politicians

listen.  It's a new movement – but it's

growing quickly.

Over the

past few weeks over 4,000 ideas for reforming democracy have been submitted by

people of all political persuasions from across the UK. After 4,500 submissions and more than 100,000 votes

-  your manifesto for fixing our broken

politics, and more information can be found here. http://www.power2010.org.uk/

Our democracy is in

crisis. MPs fiddle while the planet burns. Our rights and freedoms are under

attack. Bankers blow billions and the taxpayer foots the bill. We can't go on

like this! We need a healthy democracy that works for all of us and not just a

powerful few. POWER2010 exists to help create it. It gives you the chance to

have your say on how our democracy works so that together we can change it for

the better.

Ideas have

been put forward on funding, fairer voting and more accountability to name a

few. Those with most support have become the POWER2010 Pledge and the focus for

the national campaign at the election.

POWER2010

is a unique campaign to give everyone the chance to have a say in how our

democracy works for us.

You can

email our parliamentary candidates directly from the Power 2010 website, and

ask them to sign the pledge. It couldn’t be easier, all templates and e-mail

addresses are there waiting for you. You just change your details and click

send for each candidate to receive a copy asking them to sign the pledge. To my

knowledge it’s only the Green Candidate (for BaNES area) who has so far signed

up.

You can

become directly involved this Saturday at the events below

 Saturday 17th April

The

Thoughtful Bread Company is constructing two giant cakes, each iced as a pie

chart representing the way our votes work under the current democratic system

of First past the Post, and how they would work should we move to a system of

proportional representation as the Power2010 movement calls for.

The cakes

will be paraded around Bath

for all the public to see and understand why the current system is so

unrepresentative. They will then be ceremonially cut by the Mayor of Bath, who

supports a move to Proportional Representation.

Come along

to help  collect pledges as we go, or

just to sample The Thoughtful Bread Company's wonderful cake!

Wells Sheriff Action

Saturday 17th April 12.00 - 2.00

Come and get

dressed up as a Sherriff (they have costumes!) and help distribute western

style 'Wanted' Posters to the people of Wells. The posters feature a picture of

Wells MP, David Heathcote-Amory, and declare that he is ‘Wanted for failing our

democracy'. He is charged as a roadblock to the democratic reform that

Power2010 is campaigning for.

The event

will take place from 12.00 - 2.00 and we will meet in the West Cornwall Pasty

Co. Cafe, 1 Sadler Street.
