Children from a Radstock school did their good turn for the week when they helped clear a field.

Many of the pupils had a wonderful time sledging down the slope behind St Nicholas Church during the wintry weather.

But when the snow melted, the children from St Nicholas Primary noticed that old plastic sheets, water bottles and other rubbish had been discarded, so they offered to do a litter pick with their parents.

Owen Stephens, who owns the field, was pleased to accept the children's offer. Andrew Stammers, chairman of the Parent/ Teacher Association, said: "We wanted to be good neighbours and to clear up.

"Many of the children walk to school through the field with their parents and wanted to help out the farmer."

Yes, bravo to the kids.  That hill looks good now.

It's good to see stories like this that show youngsters in a positive light. Yesterday a young lad waited and held a gate open for me. I was delighted to see that some children have been taught good manners.
