Casswells in Midsomer Norton is like a throwback to the 1950s. It's one of those hardware stores that seems to sell absolutely everything. You also don't have to buy everything a multiple packs like you do in many DIY chain stores. Casswells has a really good kitchen section, selling good quality cooking utensils that will obviously last ages. Also handy for pet food. Oh, and a few years ago I needed to get a new door for my garden shed. I took the measurements to Casswells (round the back, at the timber yard section) and they built one especially for me, for just £20 or so - total bargain!

Casswells is great if you've got a last-minute emergency and need some advice and or tools. They also carry an extensive range of homewares and paint products, which cost a bit more than the national chains. However there's not many places where you can buy a single nut and bolt...though I couldn't find a spagetti server when I needed one!
